Xube on the BBC |

At 2.00am on 22/06/06 there was a one hour programme on BBC2 about this year's "Creativity in Digital Media Awards" for students. For the BBC2 listing please click here. |
| Xube was originally commissioned by Becta to make 17 mini-documentaries about the winners which we then grouped into 10 minute programmes covering each age group 5-7, 8-11, 12-16 and 17-18. | ||
| These films, plus the students' original entries, can still be viewed on the Becta website here. | ||
Thanks to Eliza Bell from the BBC for inviting us to re-edit our original documentaries so that they could be included in this one hour programme. We hope you got to see it. |

Not a day passes when the online video phenomenon - YouTube.com - isn't featured in the national press. If you haven't checked it out we recommend that you pay the site a visit. Anybody can join and upload their films for free (and sometimes other people's, but that's another issue) and then you just sit and wait to see how many viewers you get. Similar to social networking websites such as Flickr ( www.flickr.com ) and MySpace (http://MySpace.com), YouTube is awash with weird and wonderful video creations (as well as the usual dross). 2 overnight worldwide sensations that you just have to see are: |
Grumpy Man on a Bus ( China ) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJHl-bAc_DM - 3+ million views [Read the article in The Guardian for the background to the clip: http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,1783335,00.html] |
The Evolution of Dance (US) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMH0bHeiRNg - 25 million views and climbing |
And for you World Cup watchers: |
| Ronaldinho: Touch of Gold - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsO6D1rwrKc - 5+ million views | ||
When we first started making films the difficulty of getting an audience was a major frustration. Those days seem to be over. Watch out for Xube on your Tube... |
